On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Patricia “Pat/Grandma P” Roche, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away with family at her bedside at the age of 86. Her husband, Col. James E. Roche, USAF, Ret., predeceased her by only four weeks. Pat is survived by her children Kathi, Betsy (Mike), Jimmy (Gina), Peggy (“Moss”), Patti (Chuck), and Jane. She is also survived by her sister-in-law MaryJane Roche and cousin Pamela Benning. Grandma P will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Danny, Colleen, and Katie Hatcher; Caitlin and Brenna Roche; Maeve and Rowan McCurdy; Griffin and Phoebe Carlson; and Maddie and John King. Born in Bronx, NY on May 14,1936 to Martin and Florence (MacLean) Flynn, Pat was a graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. After her marriage, she lived in Texas, Japan, New York, New Jersey, Germany, and Illinois, where she held many volunteer positions in Officer Wives Clubs, Girl Scouts, and PTAs. Pat was the founding kindergarten teacher at St. Albert the Great (Holy Trinity) School in Illinois. She later taught 2nd grade at St. James School in Illinois and was active in the Ministry of the Sick and Aged and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. After moving to New Jersey, Pat continued her volunteerism at St. Katharine Drexel parish in Egg Harbor Township where she was a member of the Pastoral Care Committee and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Funeral services for Pat are pending as we await word on her internment at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband Jim. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Funny Farm Rescue (An Animal Sanctuary), 6908 Railroad Blvd., Mays Landing, NJ 08330, in honor of Pat’s love of all four-legged creatures.
